Spiritual Tourism - Heavens on Earth - Incredible Guruvayur
A haven for Bridal Mystics, Guruvayur is known for its legends and
its ability to generate blissful experiences. This is where the great poet Melpathur wrote a Treatise on the
Lord ( the Narayaneeyam ). Guruvayur was also adorned by the Poet Laureate,
Poontanam, who composed the Jnanapana, a great poem in Malayalam.
The great poet defined
the Cosmic Man or the Lord thus
That which is Timeless
That which is eternally Free
That which is the Aim of all sciences divine
That which is the Alpha and the Omega
That which is All in All,
To that Principle Divine, I bow !
Anupamitham Kaladeshava Dibhyam

Destructive Form as Time Eternal, as the Zodiac, was defined by the poet

Legend has it that Jupiter, Guru and
Saturn, Vayu chose this place to incarnate. The Seers predicted that this place
will become a Heaven on Earth, attracting pilgrims the world over. The great
philosopher, Sankara, worshipped the Lord at this temple. Most of the VIPs of
the world, the Indian PM, CMs etc have all graced this temple.
After describing the Indescribable,
the poet asked for the Lord's forgiveness. Defining Deity in terms of
humanity, is like defining the Center in terms of the Circumference !
ignorance I have defined Thy Glory
Forgive this transgression of mine !
I defined the Indefinable
I spoke about the Ineffable
not mistakes genuine?
I have spoken about Thy Plays
In this book which deals with Thee
Narayaneeyam, Ode to the Lord
Hearing Thy Plays are enough
For Self Realisation divine !
The Mahatvam yadi ha nigadhitham Vishwanatha kshamedha ...........)
The poet appreciates the Form of the Lord, instead
of the Formless Absolute.

Which Thou revealed to me
That Form is more lovable
Than even Thy Form Unmanifest !

- Another poet beloved to
the Lord was Jayadeva. His Ashtapadi, 24* 8 lines, starts with a Hymn to the Ten
Incarnations, which is given in the video above ( Dasavatara). It is
said that Ashtapadi was written partly by Jayadeva and partly by the Lord
Thou held Vedas Fourfold

Who assumed form of Fish
All glory is thine !

Was it " Divi Soorya Sahasrasya" ( the Splendor of a Thousand Suns)
Actually he had four verses in his mind !
He saw the Lord, even in the Destructive power unleashed, which is invested in
the womb of Almighty Time !
I am Time Eternal, the All Devourer
And the Destroyer of worlds !

The Birthday of the Lord
How can the Birthless and the Deathless, the Eternal
Principle, have a birthday? This philosophical problem is solved thus. In Bridal
Mysticism, where the Self is the Lover, Self is the Bride, a human form is given
to the Divine. This is anthropomorphisation. He is the Consort in the form of
the Ishta Devata or Tutelary Deity ! The Birthday of the Lord of Guruvayur falls on the
8th lunation, Ashtami, on the asterism Rohini !
There is only one Book
which can claim a birthday of its own. It is Narayaneeyam, which was
consecrated to the Lord on Vrischika 28th and this day is observed as
Narayaneeyam Day. Melpathur was not only a poet and scholar, he was
an astronomer, astrologer and mathematician as well, belonging to the Kerala
School of Astronomy, Mathematics and Astrology !
Guruvayur figures amongst the top five places for Spiritual Tourism. They are in order, Vatican,
Guruvayur and Sabarimala.
